What's Cookin Good Lookin?

This past weekend NYC held it's annual Big Apple BBQ Block Party, where BBQ restaurants and famous Pit Masters from all over come and cook up delicious food for the folks in NYC.  The food was amazing and it's safe to say I ate my own body weight in BBQ.

On the first day of the BBQ I wore a long an roomy dress so I could easily sit on the ground while eating as much BBQ as I wanted.  Tribal print silk maxi dress from Forever 21 with Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal Hobo.

I added on some random wooden bangles from H&M and a sapphire cuff bracelet from Kevia.

Also added on these little flower ear buds.  The petals just fall over the ear for a sweet and delicate look.

On my second day at the BBQ I went with a pair of baggy boyfriend jeans from American Eagle with a peach tank with gold studs from Express (sorry the studs which make the shirt interesting are kinda hard to see in the photos, but you can click to make the photos bigger).

Also wore my nautical rope necklace from Anthropologie.

And my double finger ring from a Soho street artisan.

Lastly I paired my outfit with these cream Faryl Robin Madison wedges.

Meatballs & Marrakesh

Ever so rarely do I start out a post more excited about the food I had while wearing the outfit than the outfit itself.  However, last night I went to the Meatball Shop on Manhattan's Lower East Side and it was an amazing experience.  So amazing I was too busy eating to remember to take photos of the meal itself!  So due to my stupidity I gave you the link above to their website where you can see all the meatball pics your heart desires.  The food there is delish, simple and inexpensive.  So if you live in the NYC area or visit and want a quick bite, I highly suggest stopping by.  I recommend the spicy pork meatball with spicy tomato sauce.

Now on to the outfit.  I wore a beaded bolero from Zara with an olive tank from H&M, my JBrand skinny jeans and Rebecca Minkoff morning after bag.  I picked up this bolero in March as a birthday treat to myself and have been waiting for the opportunity to wear it and to me meatballs was that opportunity.  

What I love about this bolero is the intricate and delicate bead work that make it so unique and beautiful.

Worn with my Diane Von Furstenberg Opal wedges, which I had been eyeing for a while and finally purchased back in the beginning of May.  I have to say I think they are the best purchase of my summer so far.   (Sorry other purchases, I still love you).  These are incredibly comfortable despite their height, relatively easy to walk in and they go with everything.  My cost per wear of these shoes has already made them worth the splurge.  Plus the gradated wood heel is just so fun!

I also wore this Indian inspired necklace I picked up at the Union Square Christmas fair this past winter.   I felt like the beads and gold work went so well with the bolero.

In our food coma, my friends and I decided to hit up one more close by bar before heading home last night.  Across the street from the Meatball Shop is a cute little restaurant/bar, Rayuela, which is decorated on the outside by masses of votive candles.  Inside they make very yummy and interestingly flavored drinks.  The top drink, called Coming up Roses, was mine and it had champagne, lime, and real rose petals in it.  My friend ordered their nightly special cocktail which had actual pop rocks in it!  How cool?!

Since this seems to be the weekend of food I'm off to the Big Apple BBQ shortly.  More posts to come on this later!

Blood Oranges & Dusk

Tonight after work I went for a low key dinner at a neighborhood Mexican restaurant where I had a yummy grapefruit margarita followed by a blood orange margarita.  It's days and simple events like this that make me love the summer (well still spring) in NYC.  I feel like everyone is so much more motivated to go out in the nice weather.  It's also so great to sit outside with food and drinks while people watching.

Today I wore  JBrand skinny jeans, a floaty silk top from Forever 21 and my Marc Jacobs Petal to the Metal satchel.

Even though this shirt is from Forever 21, who can sometimes skimp on the details, I feel this shirt is well made and has unique attributes.  I love the swirly pattern on the shirt as well as the second layer of lace that peeks out at the bottom.  Also wore my double finger stone ring I got from a street artisan in Soho.

On my walk to dinner, I couldn't help but notice this beautiful sunset softly illuminating the street.

I also wore my Jeffery Campbell wedges/clogs.  Even though these are really high and make me amazonian, they are surprisingly comfortable and stable to walk in!

In my hair I wore a peach nautical knot headband from Forever 21.  Not going to lie, I fell in love with these headbands when I saw them and at about $3 a pop I got ones in cream (my fav) and black too!

Lastly I wanted to rave about my latest lip balm/gloss obsession - Korres Lip Butter.  These little pots of gloss do feel exactly like creamy rich butter on your lips and really help to moisturize.  Some come with the subtlest hint of color matching to the lid of the pot.  The best part is they come in yummy flavors like mango and pomegranate.  The wild rose is my absolute favorite for a subtle redish gloss lip - looks very similar to your natural color, but better!

Back in Black

Hi Everyone!!  How I've missed blogging so!  So sorry for not blogging in so long.  There are really no excuses, but I'll try - busy at work, moving apts (Upper East to Upper West, yay!), vaca to the Dominican Republic (yes that's why I'm not quite as pasty anymore).  Either way I'm so excited to be back and in the spirit of blogging again.

Today is a gloomy rainy June day in NYC...what's up with it being kinda cold in June? My outfit, however, did brighten my day today.  A little edgy and downtown.  I realized I must be doing something right today when the 50+ year old man teaching a training at work today told me he noticed my booties from a far and that they were really cool. lol!

I'm wearing a zip front flower pattern dress from Forever 21 with a asymmetrical tuxedo jacket from Victoria's Secret.

Gladiator booties I just scored from Nine West.  Love how they edge up any outfit.

I scored these little dagger necklaces on my recent trip to the D.R for like $2.  There delicate and tiny yet bad a$$ all at once.  My boyfriend told me they remind him of the vial of blood Angelina Jolie used to wear around her neck for Billy Bob Thorton.  I guess I'll take that...or maybe I'll just jab him with one of my super cool daggers.  ;-P

Also wearing a ring I scored at a little jewelry store while I was lost down town one day.  I would love to say where it's from, but again I was lost.  The ring looks black from far away, but up close it's actually a hunter green with little gold flecks.  Unexpected and fun!
