Winter White Plaid

To kick off the work week, I wore a super comfy winter white sweater dress layered with a ruffle neck paid blouse underneath, both from Victoria's Secret.  I paired the dress/shirt combo with HUE navy blue tights.

Close up of the KT collection necklace I paired with the outfit.  The gun metal chain is a part of a vintage purse chain re-purposed into a necklace.  I love the feminine/edgy feel this piece exudes.  It one of my favorite necklaces of my collection!

The inspiration around my outfit today was these Deena and Ozzy ankle booties.  I just got them last week after a long back order wait and I couldn't wait to work them into an outfit.  Love the ruggedness, the straps and the buckles and I can totally see myself getting a lot of wear out of these booties.

To add in some color I grabbed my Rebecca Minkoff  Devote tote.  I like how it contrasted against the navy tights and winter white sweater dress, while tying in the yellow lines in my shirt.  

Also wore with these two rings.  The red and yellow was a cheapie find from Forever 21.  I love the fabric look underneath the glass of the ring.  The gold ring was another great find from Urban Outfitters.  I couldn't resist when I saw how this ring cut across the fingers to make such a geometrical look.

Have to end the blog with one funny picture of my fur baby.  I caught him sniffing my beer yesterday afternoon and was able to catch a picture of it.  Don't worry he definitely didn't get a taste of it though.  He's only 7 after all.

Fringe is the New Black

Kind of a long post, but there was definitely a lot of inspirational visuals at the Shinecock Nation Indian Pow Wow I went to in Southampton this weekend.

Carved animal necklace created by one of the vendors at the pow wow, Norma Jean Locklear (910-733-0187).  My friend bought a very similar one, which I think could make for a very unique boho look.

My loot from the pow wow, turquoise beaded barrette and stainless steal beaded earrings.  You can't really tell from the photo but these curve around your ear in a very cool and sophisticated way.  Not sure of the designer of these.

After leaving the pow wow we stopped by downtown Southampton to grab some diner.  Above is a cute sidewalk cafe.

In the entry way to the Ralph Lauren Home Store on Job St.  This store was so clean and airy.  I'm wearing a cheapy jewel green shirt from F21 with a woven belt from Anthropologie, my American Apparel denim running shorts, Steve Madden fringe flats, Rebecca Minkoff handbag and Mui Mui shades.

Sunday is the New Friday

This past weekend it was blazingly hot in NYC, so on Sunday my friends and I decided to head to St. Marks St. for some sidewalk shopping and brunching.

Stopping on our walk down St. Marks for some photos.  Since it was so hot out, I wore a simple cotton tank dress from F21, liked the layering at the bottom of the dress as well.  Worn with a really unique bag from SHIH. www.shihshop.com/  Kind of obsessed with the song on this site and the designer Stephanie who I met at a trade show a few years ago is incredibly nice!  Studded gladiator flats are Steve Madden.  Sunnies are Mui Mui.

Lazy Sunday

A few weeks ago I went to the Isabel Toledo exhibit at F.I.T.  I wasn't allowed to take pictures inside, since I missed the press night, but her designs are amazingly inspirational!  This Cuban born, but NY based designer is now best know for creating the inauguration dress Michelle Obama wore.  This dress is on exhibit at F.I.T, however I must say several of her other pieces are the show stoppers.  She with help from her husband, Ruben Toledo, make intricate and beautiful pieces from one geometric pattern.  Truly incredible.  Catch her exhibit, Fashion From the Inside Out, at F.I.T through September 26.

Mermaid

I was supposed to go surfing again today...however it again didn't happen.  Decided to do a quick post of beach pics from earlier this summer instead.  Wearing a comfy, breezy cotton maxi dress from F21 with a lace cutout back and a silk flower child head band from Urban.  I guess I was trying to channel a bit of a mermaid vibe.

Retail Therapy

So today I woke up totally pumped and un-hung over for a full day of surfing on Long Beach.  Unfortunately the weather was not on the same page as me with rain and thunderstorms pretty much all day.  To help me out of my bad weather funk, I decided to do a little retail therapy.

I've been hearing about Bare Minerals for a while now and in need of some new makeup I decided to check out the store close to my apartment.  The makeup has no preservatives, fillers, binders, talc, oil, or fragrances and supposedly even helps make your skin better over time.

Pretty much everything they have is in powder form which turns creamy when mixed with the heat of your skin.  When the makeup artist, first put the foundation (in powder form on my face) I wasn't really wowed, but as I sat there it's almost like the make up became more a part of my face and the coverage just got better.  And it really doesn't feel like you're wearing anything at all, which is a big plus.

My only complaint is there is kind of a lot of steps compared to what I'm used to, but the result is still very natural.  My true test will be using it tomorrow morning before work to see if it is in fact really managable in day to day life.   

My loot.  Yes, I spent a small fortune.  At first I was a little skeptical of the mascara since I'm a Fiberwig girl, but this stuff made my lashes longer than I have ever seen them...now testing to see if I have a waterproof problem with it.  Also I loved the eyeshadow colors.  I got a pretty sea green and two different golds.

Here I am in my rainy day attire on my way home from shopping.  Wearing yellow Hunter wellies, a black spring jacket with laser eyelet cut outs from F21 and my tiedye leather clutch from Urban Outfitters.

Mid way through my walk home I stopped to do a sweat test on the makeup.  Despite the rain, it was quite humid and muggy out.  Makeup wasn't running.

By the time I got home my skin still looked dewy and fresh...my hair is another story.

I'm excited to see how the makeup continues to work for me and if this mineral makeup trend is all it's really cracked up to be.  I'll be sure to share my continued experience via the blog.
